Chapter 5- Building an Awesome Brand

Building An Awesome Brand is what sets you apart from any other stay-at-home mom out there that decided to try to sell Affiliate Marketing products to her friends. In this chapter we are going to cover differnt ways to go about Building an Awesome Brand for your Affiliate Marketing Business .

Why Should I Care About Branding?

I know what you are thinking... can't I just start selling stuff and making money? Well, the short answer is... no. The longer answer is that you can try to sell affiliate products to your personal network, but chances are your network isn't THAT large. Even if you have a network of over 100 people, that is not going to be enough to make any real money with affiliate marketing. Even if you did get all 100 people you know to buy affiliate products and services, it would be difficult to maintain reoccuring sales.

That is where branding comes into play. Branding is what allows you to branch out beyond your network, and to generate roccuring customers. People that like a brand will support that brand by rewarding them with purchases.

Note: You are going to need to take your time with this process and really give it deep thought if you want it to have any effectiveness, so make sure to bookmark this page, and take breaks in between the sections. Ideally, this section will take you at least a few hours to get through if you want it to have any real value.

What's In A Name?

In order to have an effective branding campaign, you will need to start with a name. In most instances, your name is going to be determined by your website domain (e.g. Even if you have a somewhat generic name, you can still build a brand around it if you utilize some clever marketing. If you do have a vague website name, then you may want to start thinking about a brand name that you can use. Keep in mind that a brand name extends beyond your website, and would preferably be your same username for social media accounts as well for better bran unification.

Who Am I?

One of the most important steps in branding is to take time to understand the purpose of your brand. To get started, take a moment to ponder these questions:

  • Who am I, who is my brand, and what does my brand represent?
  • What are my brand's values?

Once you have given these ideas some thought, let's move onto the next section.

Who Cares?

Now that we have a better idea of who we are, we need to start thinking about who our customers are. Let's start with pondering these couple of questions:

  • Who cares about what I have to offer?
  • What are their needs that I can fulfill?

After you have given these ideas some thought, we can move onto the last section, and we will tie all together.

What is My Brand?

Now that we have a better idea of who we are, and who our customers are. We can ponder the final questions that will help define our brand. Go ahead and pondering these questions:

  • What services should I provide to my customers to meet their needs?
  • How can I creatively offer my services in a way that offers them the best value, while still maintaining the values of my brand?

The answer to these two questions will shape your brand's identity and should remain at the center of all of your decisions down the road.

Developing a Brand Image

So now that you have spent a little time deciding what your brand is and what services you will be providing to your customers, we can now move on with developing a Brand Image. We have one last question for you to think about and you will be on your merry way to selling all kinds of affiliate products! Take a moment to think about this question:

  • When my customers and potential customers think about my brand, what ideas do I want to come to their mind?

Make sure to write a list of the ideas that you want to come to your customer's minds.

If the answer didn't come to you right away, don't worry. There is a reason why great companies took years to develop, and that's because it simply takes time to find the right answers to all these questions.

Now that you have an idea of what you want your customers to think of, we are going to totally crush your dreams with this next part...

There Can Be Only One

So after all of that hard work of coming up with all of those great ideas that you want to come to your customers mind, you are now going to have to pick one from that list. Like any race, there can be only one winner. Now you need to go through your list and decide which is the MOST important idea that you want to come to your customer's mind.

Ok... you got your most important idea? Well, now you are going to pick a second most important (I know, we lied about the There Can Be Only One thing... but we did it so you could really decide what is the MOST important one).

Once you have your Most Important and your Second Most Imporant ideas, then you have what you need to start building your brand image.

Fit The Puzzle Pieces Together

Now that we know what ideas we want to come to our customers mind, we have to start brainstorming on how we can bring that to life. Here are a few questions to get your creative juices flowing:

  • What color summarizes my idea? (vague we know, but try to think hard, because this is important, and if you need help, you can check out our guide on Colors and What They Mean in Marketing)
  • Is there a place that embodies my idea? (like a beach, or a city, or the woods, or a restaurant)
  • Are there any itmes or things that embody my idea? (like a car, or a cooking utensil, or a surf board)
  • When I think of other brands that convey similar ideas, what comes to my mind? What kind of slogans, colors, images, or logos do they use?

Now make sure you right down each of your answers to those questions and keep note of what each correlates to specifically. These are going to be the weapons in your branding arsenal

Loading the Branding Gun

This is where the fun part comes in. First, make sure you take a break before you start this next section. Then make sure you are in a quet place where you can think. If you want to put on some of your favorite music quietly, it can sometimes help. Now just sit down with a notepad and start writing and sketching all of the things that come to your mind when you start to imagine how you can mesh all of your answers together into one cohesive thought. Answer these questions:

  • What kind of language and writing tone embodies the ideas?
  • What kind of logo embodies the ideas?
  • What kind of webpage color theme, and general look emobdies the ideas?
  • What kind of fonts embody the ideas?
  • What type of images can I use to support my brand on my webpage and social media?

Take A Look Back

Now that you have answered all of those questions, you should be feeling pretty pumped up and excited. Congratulations, you have successfully put together your Brand Identity and Image and are ready to start dominating the Affiliate Marketing Business.
